Manchester United sensation Alejandro Garnacho has picked to represent Argentina over his country of birth Spain.

An Argentina official has revealed that Manchester United sensation Alejandro Garnacho has confirmed he wants to represent the world champions over his country of birth.

The 18-year-old is one of United's breakout stars this season, having already made 29 first-team appearances in 2022/23 and contributed to nine goal involvements so far.

There has been serious talk regarding his club and international future, with reports last month claiming that he will sign a new five-year deal at Old Trafford after he joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

On the international front, he has remains eligible to represent both Spain and Argentina, as his father descends from the former while his mother is from the latter nation.

The youngster has represented both countries at youth level and Spain are believed to be keen on having the teenager line up alongside other rising talents such as Pedri and Gavi in the senior team.

However, it now looks very unlikely that will happen, as Argentina youth coordinator Bernardo Romeo has revealed why the Red Devils starlet has his mind set wearing the Albiceleste colours instead.

"Garnacho has already told me that he has decided to play for Argentina, despite having received a call from Spain," he told D Sports Radio.

"He answered him out of respect, but he has decided to play for Argentina.

"We were in his house and he has all the photos of Messi.”

Garnacho was included in Argentina's 2022 FIFA World Cup preliminary squad, but was not included in Lionel Scaloni's final squad for the tournament, which they eventually won.
