FAMILY wants answers after actor’s passing.
As Mzansi and the acting industry continue to mourn the passing of legendary actor Seputla Sebogodi (63), his family in Ramogale Village, Ga-Mothapo, outside Mankweng in Limpopo, said they’re devastated because they haven’t been allowed to view his body since his passing.
According to the family, Sebogodi died in the early hours of Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at a hospital in Mokopane after allegedly suffering complications related to diabetes. They said they were informed that he had collapsed while working on one of his projects in Limpopo.
When Daily Sun visited the family home on Monday morning, 20 July, family members were in a private meeting, saying they were struggling to come to terms with both the actor’s passing and the uncertainty surrounding his burial.
Dispute over burial place

The family said there’s a dispute over where the late actor should be laid to rest.
They want Sebogodi to be buried at the family’s burial site at Makgopeng Cemetery, where his late mum, Anna Sebogodi, is buried. They insisted they’re not fighting with anyone but simply want their brother to be buried alongside his mum.

The family alleged that Sebogodi’s wife of six months and his kids want him buried at Silicon Cemetery in Polokwane. They further claimed they were unaware of the marriage and don’t know how it came about.
‘We just want him buried next to our mum’
Speaking on behalf of the family, Sebogodi’s elder sister, Mary Kau (67), said they have been denied the opportunity to view their brother’s body.
Since his passing, we have never been able to see my younger brother’s remains. I did not even get the chance to perform our family’s traditional rituals for him.

“We don’t care about money. We just want him to be buried next to our mum. I raised him. I carried him on my back when he was a kid. He’s my younger brother. He loved us and we loved him. He also loved the people of Ga-Mothapo,” she said.
Sebogodi’s nephew, France Sebogodi (58), added that there will be no peace if his uncle is not buried at the rightful site.
He must be buried with his family so that we can also visit him regularly when we miss him. Silicone is far, we won’t manage to go see him when we want to.
Artists mourn legendary actor
Meanwhile, the Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) has joined South Africans in mourning the veteran actor.
LAM chairman Mphoza Mashabela said: “Seputla Sebogodi was a giant of South African storytelling whose talent, humility and dedication enriched our country’s creative landscape.”
Seputla is survived by his four kids from his previous marriage and two siblings, Nkokona and Mary.
Daily Sun reached out to one of Sebogodi’s eldest son, Thapelo Sebogodi, for comment regarding the alleged burial dispute, but attempts to reach him were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
The date of the memorial and funeral service hasn’t yet been announced.
