Sandile Dlamini said getting an acting opportunity to play one of the leading characters on TV was the best thing to ever happen in his life.

ALTHOUGH the TV series Imbewu: The Seed is coming to an end, one of the lead actors, Sandile Dlamini, says he learnt a lot being on the show.

This was the first time Sandile worked as an actor when he landed the role of Phakade "Shongololo" Bhengu in 2018.

He had been in the music industry for 30 years.

Sandile from Umlazi, Durban, who made his name in TV with his unique beard, said he will continue to act while focusing on his music career as a bass guitar player and producer.

“Getting the acting opportunity to play one of the leading characters on TV was the best thing to ever happen in my life.

“I got the opportunity when I was too old to start acting and I will forever be grateful to Imbewu: The Seed for giving me that golden opportunity,” he said.

He said being on Imbewu: The Seed made him realise there is no character he can't portray if he puts effort into it.

“I will appear in other top TV series, but at the moment I won’t reveal it. People must stay tuned,” he said.

Sandile was popular in the music industry for playing his unique bass guitar for top musicians such as Afro Soul and Unjoko.

He said it made him happy to be part of a TV series that taught people about various things happening in black communities.

“The series taught people about the impact of keeping secrets in their families.

“It also shows us the conflict between Christians and the traditional ways of doing things for African families,” he said.

Sandile said that he will always be grateful for the opportunity he got to be on set with well-known legendary actors and actresses such as Thembi Mtshali-Jones, Leleti Khumalo and Tony Kgoroge.

Imbewu: The Seed will always be important in my life because it is the one that changed my life by giving me an opportunity to showcase my acting talent for the first time,” said Sandile.
