THE Eastern Cape Department of Education is investigating an incident at JA Ncaca Primary School in Lingelihle in Cradock.

This after a five-year-old pupil was locked in a classroom on Friday, 12 May and only found on Monday morning, 15 May. The pupil, who has since been rushed to hospital, was allegedly found half naked with paint on his head.

Eastern Cape Education spokesman, Malibongwe Mtima, said: “The pupil was found unwell and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment. He is now recovering and has been discharged from hospital.

“The investigation is continuing to establish who locked the door and all other details."

Mtima added that the child and his family would receive counselling from both the department and Social Development.

Daily Sun previously spoke to the pupil's foster mother who expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding her son’s disappearance.

She questioned how no teacher noticed that they had locked her son in the classroom and how he ended up there in the first place.

The matter was reported to the police and is being investigated.
