A 31-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Saturday, 8 April, by the Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) in possession of stolen property and an unlicensed firearm in Houghton.

JMPD spokesman Xolani Fihla said officers received a complaint about a vehicle (white BMW) involved in an armed robbery in Bryanston, which was travelling in Yeoville.

“Officers spotted the vehicle at Houghton Drive and St Patrick Road in Houghton being driven by a man and intercepted it," said Fihla.

“Upon searching the driver and the vehicle, officers found an unlicensed firearm in his possession. The stolen property, including an iPad, iPhone, laptop, four luggage bags and clothing, was recovered in the vehicle,” said Fihla.

He said the owner of the robbed property was called to the scene and confirmed that he and his family were robbed at gunpoint on his way home from the airport.

“The suspect, who is allegedly a member of a gang linked to airport robberies, was arrested and detained at Hillbrow Police Station,” Fihla said.
