THREE tavern owners and one employee were arrested for their alleged involvement in a mob attack that claimed six lives. 

The horrific incident happened in Kabokweni where three victims were brutally killed at Sifunindlela and the house where they were found was also burnt down, two were killed in Khumbula and the last one in Clau-clau area.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the accused allegedly committed business robbery in one of the taverns in Emvangatini.

“Police investigation led to the arrest of tavern employee on Sunday, 23 April and his employer was arrested on Monday, 24 April. Two tavern owners were arrested on Tuesday, 2 May and appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrates Court on Friday, 5 May,” he said.

Mohlala said the suspects were remanded in custody to make a for formal application for bail on Tuesday, 9 May.

“The first two suspects also appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrates Court and were also remanded in custody to apply for a bail on Thursday, 11 May,” Mohlala said.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela warned community members not to take the law into their own hands, and urged people to report any criminal activities to the cops.
