AWARD-WINNING singer and songwriter Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro, better known as Sha Sha, is making her much-anticipated return to the music scene.

She's back with a new single titled Ndawana, featuring amapiano powerhouses Sykes and Kelvin Momo.

The track is set for release on 27 September, marking Sha Sha's comeback after a year-long break from the spotlight.

Reflecting on her time away, Sha Sha shared that she took the opportunity to rediscover herself and explore new musical directions. Known for her versatility, she emphasised that she refuses to be trapped in one genre.

"My time away allowed me to become more intentional with my music. I don't like to be boxed in. I've always dabbled in different genres. We live in a world where everyone is chasing trends, but I wanted to focus on showing who I truly am. It's a process that takes time. I needed to learn more about myself and unlearn certain things to become my best self and the best artist I can be," she said.

On the inspiration behind Ndawana, the Tender Love hitmaker explained that the song explores themes of love and self-discovery.

"The song is about my journey with self-love. Ndawana means a found place and in it, I talk about finding 'the one' and the risks that come with it, including the potential for heartbreak. For me, this song was about finding the one within myself before looking for it externally," she shared.

Sha Sha also opened up about the collaboration process with Kelvin Momo and Sykes, noting that it had been a long time in the making.

"We've been wanting to work together for a while. Last year, I was going crazy over Kelvin's album, so I called him up, and we agreed we needed to collaborate. That's when I met Sykes in the studio, and the chemistry was just perfect. It made the music-making process so much easier," she explained.
