THE African National Congress (ANC) demonstrated strong support for the Greater Tshwane regional secretary, George Matjila.
On Saturday, 9 August, he laid his partner, Dr Pertunia "Pert" Mathibe, to rest.
The funeral service of the 40-year-old celebrity surgeon, Dr Pert, was held in her hometown of Hammanskraal, Tshwane.
The event was marked by high emotions and solidarity, especially from the political community.
The marquee was filled with ANC members and political leaders who reflected on the impact Dr Pert had on Matjila's life and career.

Among the high-profile attendees were Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Minister of International Relations Ronald Lamola, and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
As mourners took turns sharing their tributes, Matjila sat with his hands crossed, his face sombre, visibly moved by the occasion.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi delivered a heartfelt tribute on behalf of the Gauteng government and the ANC.
"We are here as a collective to share our sympathies to someone who is very special to our government and our movement, comrade George Matjila. The Mathibe family, condolences and to Dr Pertunia, go well, my dearest sister, you remain a symbol of success and what our country can offer. I now plead with all of us here, let's all release her. It's tough and difficult, but let's release her," he said.

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula also spoke, highlighting the significance of the occasion, which coincided with National Women's Day.
"The National Women's Day is not just about recognising the struggles women led against oppression, but an affirmation of a leadership role of women in society, an expression of our unwavering commitment to women empowerment and equality. Dr Mathibe's own life was an embodiment of a resilience of our women.
"Find comfort in the knowledge that we are here to share your pain and mourn the loss of your daughter, your sister, mother, aunt, whose work touched many ways," he said.
