Actress, Constance Sibiya said she was honoured to be one of the women elected.

ACTRESS Constance Sibiya will be consecrated as a bishop on Saturday, 25 March.

Constance, who plays Hangwani in Muvhango, is currently an elected bishop and her consecration ceremony will take place at the State Theatre in Tshwane.

The actress said she was honoured to be one of the women chosen because the office is dominated by men.

“When I was appointed bishop-elect two years ago, I had to go through probation for two years. Now I’ve passed it and will be consecrated to Bishop.

“Once I'm bishop, I’ll be a bishop for women and children. I’ll be the voice in the clergy for them,” she said.

She said she would use her position to be an advocate in higher places.

“There is no one who speaks for women as a pastor. There are people who speak for women as politicians or ambassadors, but there has never been a pastor. So, I will serve as that,” she said.

Constance asked women to accept her.

“This is exciting, but it's also a challenge, because the church hasn't warmed to having female bishops. It’s always been place for men. I say this is the Lord's work," she said.

She will be presented to the chief consecrator by SABC Group CEO, Madoda Mxakwe.

“The Minister of Electricity Dr Kgosietsu Ramokgopa and Treasury General of ANC: Dr Gwen Ramokgopa will read congratulatory messages. Executive Producer of Muvhango: Dr Duma Ndlovu, Gauteng MEC of Health & Wellness, Ms Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko and former MEC Social Development, Nandi Mayetula Khoza will be present.

“Mr Mxakwe will present me because it’s not common for an actress to be in such a position,” Constance said.
