Within minutes, clips of the moment had set social media on fire.

THE crowd at Fill Up Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State was amazed by the show.

Their excitement grew even more when Cassper Nyovest, real name Refiloe Phoolo, took the stage and surprised everyone by singing a gospel song with the powerful line, "Jesus is the Alpha and Omega."

Within minutes, clips of the moment had set social media on fire.

The unexpected performance ignited fierce debate online.

Clips shared on X (formerly Twitter) prompted accusations of "performative Christianity" from some users, while others defended the rapper for openly sharing his faith.

The controversy escalated when an X user posted a clip captioned: "Y'all were right, Cassper Nyovest is doing performative Christianity stuff. His fans will call you a hater for being this honest."

Responses poured in from all sides.

One fan, @Nokbonga_S, wrote: "Only dumb people don't see anything wrong with this." While the original poster, @Lord_Ori_, replied, "Cass followers are dumb, I guess."

Another user, @maphatsoesenyan, added: "I never liked him, and I don't think I ever will," prompting @Lord_Ori_ to respond with a laughing Vladimir Putin GIF.

Not everyone was critical. @ForaSeshOne commented: "But people are singing along. Meaning is not a bad thing. Sometimes we just hate. And some people on these comments are the ones starting gospel songs in grooves."

The rapper, known for blending entertainment with personal expression, has sparked a conversation that goes beyond music.

Social media users remain divided, some critiquing the authenticity of his faith, others applauding his willingness to share a different side of himself on stage.

This isn't the first time Cassper has publicly displayed his Christian faith.

In 2023, he revealed that he had embraced life as a born-again Christian, sharing that "Jesus Christ is my Lord and Saviour".

He later documented his baptism on Instagram at the start of 2024, marking a personal and public commitment to his faith.

Since then, he has woven spirituality into his music and public appearances, including a 2025 performance at CottonFest Joburg, where he declared: "With all of my flaws, everything I've done wrong and everything I've done right, I'm nothing without the name Jesus Christ."
