FOR Ashley Mmakola, dancing is more than a hobby - it's a way of life.
The 54-year-old star from Mamelodi East, Tshwane, travels across Mzansi, entertaining crowds with his unique and stylish dance moves - always dressed in formal shoes, no takkies.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Ashley said he learnt to dance from his late dad Bishop Mmakola, who passed away in 2012.
"I started dancing when I was only three years old. It brings me joy and makes me feel fulfilled," he said.
Ashley is particularly passionate about jazz music.
"Jazz heals me. It's a respectful genre, and when I hear it, I can't help but move. That's why I often dance at funerals - to honour friends and pay them their last respects."
Ashley dances at events and on Sundays, particularly when jazz is playing.
"People really love my moves. I usually dance in formal wear. It adds flair to the performance," he said.

Ashley is not only a dancer.
He's also a respected international softball umpire, or "empire" as he proudly calls it. His career has taken him across the world. He's been to China, Japan, and Canada, among others.
He'll be heading to Italy on 24 June 2025 for his next international assignment but also in need of funds. He's appealing to Mzansi to assist him with whatever donation. His goal is to, at least, have R10 000 and more for his upcoming international travel.
In Mzansi, Ashley serves as a director of evaluator training, helping aspiring umpires follow in his footsteps.
"My dad also had a softball team, so it runs in the family. Softball is for Saturdays, and dancing is for Sundays. I love both my callings," he said.
Despite his tight schedule, Ashley still pushes himself.
He's currently studying carpentry at Pheladi Nakene Primary School in Mamelodi and dreams of starting his own business.
He used to work as an estate agent, but entertaining people remains his true passion.
"I dance for free. Sometimes, people give me money as a show of appreciation," he said.
His friend Thabo Madumo told Daily Sun: "Ashley loves jazz and truly enjoys entertaining people with his beautiful dance moves."
Ashley's message to the youth: Whatever you want in life, you can achieve it through perseverance.
