GOSPEL music is commonly viewed as a means for healing or praising God.

However, many people overlook the fact that it also shares the personal stories of the artists themselves.

Gospel singer Arthur Ndindoo Ndindani has opened up about a deeply personal season of loss and doubt, a time when he questioned whether the path he was on still made sense.

Amid his struggles, the 46-year-old singer from Malamulele in Limpopo, now based in Joburg, said he felt a powerful reminder from God that true joy is not found in the absence of hardship.

He believes it was God's guidance that helped him overcome those significant challenges.

His latest song, Bomba, speaks of pure joy, the kind that comes from gratitude and faith, and was inspired by that dark season in his life.

"I wanted to capture that feeling of release, that moment when you realise you've made it through, not by your own strength, but by grace. There was a time when things felt heavy both spiritually and emotionally. I was pushing through challenges in my career, facing personal losses, and questioning whether the path I was on still made sense. It was during that time that I felt God reminding me that joy is not the absence of struggle, but the victory that follows it," he said.

Ndindoo said writing the song helped him reconnect with the reason he began making music in the first place, to inspire hope.

"It's very personal. It's a reflection of coming out of a dark place and choosing to celebrate again. That's why the song says, I made it through, and now I dance not just because everything is perfect, but because I'm grateful."

He said that his journey has taught him that faith isn't about avoiding hard times.

"It's about finding strength and meaning in them. When things aren't going well, I go back to prayer, to the Word, and to gratitude. I remind myself of every season I've already come through, and that keeps me grounded. Music has always been my way of processing pain and turning it into praise."
