One recurring prediction from several healers was that the year would be marked by deaths in the entertainment sector, as well as high-profile court appearances involving celebrities.

AT the start of 2025, Daily Sun consulted traditional healers, prophets and izangoma to predict what's in store.

While some of the prophecies pointed to hope and growth, others painted a far more troubling picture for the country and, in particular, the entertainment industry.

One recurring prediction from several healers was that the year would be marked by deaths in the entertainment sector, as well as high-profile court appearances involving celebrities.

As the months went by, some of these prophecies seemed to align with real-life events.

Sangoma Solly Mathebula, also known as Gogo Mahlasela from Mamelodi in Tshwane, warned that the year would begin on a dark note.

He predicted that a kwaito legend would pass away early in the year, sending shockwaves through the music industry.

In January, Mzansi was saddened by the passing of iconic kwaito singer Winnie Khumalo aged 51 following a short illness.

Her passing marked one of the most painful losses in the local music and echoed the prediction made at the beginning of the year.

Gogo Mahlasela also foresaw unrest, including conflict and court drama involving well-known figures.

In 2025, legal matters involving prominent names made headlines.

After years of investigations, the alleged killers of popular DJ Sumbody were finally arrested, making it one of the biggest criminal cases in the country.

The arrest brought renewed attention to the long-running probe and reignited public interest in the case.

In another high-profile development, controversial figure Shebe Shxt was arrested and has since been denied bail, further reinforcing predictions of legal trouble involving celebs and public figures.

Meanwhile, another sangoma, Dr Kuppe Banda, predicted a different outcome for the entertainment industry.

He said 2025 would usher in new talent, with emerging artists enjoying financial success and earning more than they did in 2024.

However, he also warned that this rise would come with tension.

Banda predicted clashes between established artists and newcomers, as both groups compete for attention and relevance.

"Seperations in the industry are going to be high," he said.

Later on in the year, signs of these divisions became evident.

In September, amapiano star Tebogo G Mashego accused major industry figures of exploiting him.

Following a visit to Nigeria, the Biri Marung hitmaker experienced a public meltdown that saw him trend for weeks. During a series of live videos, he lashed out at fellow artists before issuing an apology later, highlighting growing tension in the industry.
