SUPERSPORT breaks silence on commentator Phumlani Miya after his controversial remarks about the coloured community sparked massive backlash.
However, the station hasn't confirmed whether it's suspended the commentator following the uproar over his comments.
The IsiZulu commentator landed himself in hot water and sparked massive backlash over comments portraying the coloured community as people who love violence.
The incident happened during his live commentary on SuperSport when Kaizer Chiefs played against Richards Bay FC at Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
His comment went viral on social media for the wrong reasons and divided soccer fans, with some condemning him and others defending him.
The controversy erupted when Richards Bay player Lundi Mahala and Chiefs player Aden McCarthy nearly came to blows.
Miya repeatedly asked if Mahala could fight and win against "the coloured" - a comment that offended many people, including those outside the coloured community.
A few days later, Miya apologised to all who were offended and admitted his mistake. However, rumours have since emerged that SuperSport has suspended him.
An inside source claimed that Miya has been suspended for three months.

Daily Sun contacted SuperSport spokesperson Sibusiso Mjikeliso to clarify the situation.
He responded with a statement that neither confirmed nor denied whether Miya has been suspended.
His statement made it clear that SuperSport and its affiliated entities don't tolerate discriminatory speech directed towards any person.
"SuperSport, a subsidiary of MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has noted with serious concern the comments made by one of its commentators during a Premier Soccer League match on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
"We are treating this as an internal matter, which is currently being dealt with in accordance with our established company policies. As such, we will not be confirming or commenting on the specific details of any internal decision or disciplinary processes at this time."
Daily Sun contacted Phumlani Miya, who denied that he had been suspended but refused to give further details.
