TV PRESENTER Nolu Malope is giving podcasts a chance.

The 35-year-old host, who presented shows such as Married in A Flash and More Than a Song, has just launched her first podcast.

Her podcast, The Spotlight with Nolu Malope, shines the spotlight on gospel stars and the gospel industry.

"I started a podcast because I come from TV presenting. I know the limitations that come with TV. There are rules and regulations that you have to follow.

"You don't want to be reported to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa, and everybody's always careful. It has to be clean. Sometimes, that's limiting," said Nolu.

"Sometimes, that means you can't go in-depth on a topic. You can't ask certain questions. You can't say anything that might be even found to be controversial. You have to keep it clean. Podcasts allow you to get into a topic and be controversial.

"It gives you more freedom, and more time as well, and you've got no limitations with time when it comes to cost. I just wanted something that gives us more freedom so we can shine the spotlight on our industry in a more mainstream way."

The podcast gets into the depth of the gospel industry and gospel artists.

"On our first three episodes, we didn't even have an artist. We're not big on just profiling and artists. Artists get profiled all the time," she said.

"There's so much more to gospel music. Our first episode discussed the gospel industry as a whole. The state of our industry. Then, the next time, we covered growing up as pastor's kids.

"What it's like growing up and having a famous parent. How do you find your own identity? We also spoke to a lawyer about the legal aspects and careers. It's intentional to give everyone a 360 view of our industry," she said.

New episodes are posted every Tuesday on the Nolu Malope YouTube page.

"In the coming episodes, we will speak to other people who work within the gospel industry who do different jobs. We'll speak about the positives, the negatives and everything in-between. We'll also have publicists and managers from the space and cover things like award shows and more."
