UKHOZI FM DJ Thokozani Mpungose has thanked his ancestors after surviving a terrible headache.

The 44-year-old DJ, affectionately known as Mafresh from Durban, said he couldn't present his show over the weekend because of a headache.

"I've never suffered from that pain before. It was unbearable. My whole weekend was like hell. I had to skip work because I couldn't do anything or even concentrate in that condition," said Mafresh.

The DJ, also a professional chef, who started radio at a community radio station in 2004, is a presenter for Ukhozi FM's Akulalwa show from midnight to 3am on Saturdays.

He said that he was praying that God would make him better.

"I was worried about my family. It was rough. I prayed to God, but I didn't forget my ancestors. That headache was terrible to the point that I even thought I wasn't going to survive.

"I don't wish even my worst enemy to suffer from it. It was even difficult for me to open my eyes. But I went to the doctor. I'm feeling much better now. It's only thanks to my creator and my ancestors," said Thokozani, who owns the entertainment establishment called KwaMafresh in Emzinyathi, north of Durban.

Mafresh has worked for community radio stations Highway Radio and Izwi Lomzansi and the commercial radio station Gagasi FM before joining Ukhozi FM in 2018.
