AS painful as it was for friends, family and colleagues, it did not stop them from giving DJ Pencil a celebratory and entertaining send-off.

Team Pencil had mourners dancing and singing along.

Dancing around his coffin, they showed mourners that DJ Pencil was another hitmaker destined to join other late Tshwane-born music stars like DJ Sumbody and Vusi Ma R5, whose music and visuals would live on forever.

Scores of mourners said their final goodbyes to the Dj on Saturday, 18 March.

They gathered at Mbolekwa hall in Atteridgeville, west of Tshwane, for his final send-off.

The 40-year-old, whose real name was Samuel Moripe, died of Leukemia cancer last Friday.

He was known for his hit songs Suna Papa, Tshwara tshwara and Lefura.

His mother, Mpoele Moripe (65), told Daily Sun that DJ Pencil has had cancer for eight years.

“I am not well at all. I have lost a lot. My son and I were very close,” she said.

She said it pained her to see her son in pain.
