IT has been over two years since rapper AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, was shot dead.

Recently, his colleague and friend Yanga Ntshakaza, popularly known as Yanga Chief, spoke about missing him.

In an interview with DJ Fresh on his podcast What A Week, Yanga shared some memories of AKA.

The artist (37) is best known for his contributions to the new-school isiXhosa rap scene and a song like What If, which has been loved by many and even inspired a TikTok challenge.

When DJ Fresh asked Yanga what AKA would say to God about him, he said AKA probably spoke in his favour.

"I think he asked God to watch over and protect me. These are conversations we've had. Kiernan, towards the last year, was super religious, and we prayed on everything," he said.

He explained what he missed about AKA.

"I missed the jokes, I missed the light energy," he said.

Yanga mentioned that he always wondered why AKA gave him a chance back in the days when he was working for an online hip-hop publication.

"At the time, no one really noticed me, and I wasn't trying to introduce myself because I also wanted to be a rapper just like him, and I said I'm not going to introduce myself until I'm a rapper," he said.

Yanga said if AKA hadn't gone to Durban that day, he would've gone another day.

"If you told him he can't do something, he was going to do it."

He said when he heard about AKA's murder, he was returning from his cousin's funeral.

"I didn't believe it, and I think Kwesta called me. It hurts to have people who used to be in our circle take the opportunity to say false news," he said.

He expressed hope for justice.

"I'm also watching the case closely, and when I speak to his dad, we're hopeful of an outcome and some sort of closure. I don't think we'll get justice of other things that people are talking about," he said.
