A WOMAN from Stinkwater, Tshwane, wants justice after she claims a white tablet was found inside a chewing gum she bought from AboMyfriend shop.

Sharon Xaba (38) from RDP in Stinkwater, Tshwane, sent her sibling to buy three chewing gums from AboMyfriend shop ekasi on Saturday, 20 June 2026.

She told Daily Sun she didn't eat hers on Saturday but ate it during her birthday on Sunday, 21 June, instead.

"I gave the other two chewing gums to my family members, and I ate the pink one. The gum almost ruined my beautiful day. Shockingly, when I was chewing it, there was a white tablet inside it. My tongue turned bad. I was having foam from my mouth," she said.

She said she bought three chewing gums for R1.50.

"When I was chewing it, it had a strange taste. I took it out of my mouth and saw something like a tablet. The problem is I had already chewed it," she said.

Sharon said her mouth was tasteless.

"I always buy the bubblegum from aboMyfriend, and had never encountered anything like this. I want them to remove all chewing gums and sweets from the shelves," she said.

The woman said she is scared and wants justice for what happened to her.

She said she wouldn't report the matter to police or health institutions but wants aboMyfriend to sell good products that won't harm abahlali.

Yvonne Baloyi, a community member, said to show that aboMyfriend are innocent, they gave the community chewing gums, and nothing happened to them.

"Yes, aboMyfriend must go back to their countries, but people mustn't create lies and hatred against them," she said.

Community leader Bertwell Cele said he heard about a woman who bought a chewing gum from aboMyfriend.

"When I came, I found the community and told them not to cause chaos or damage this shop," he said.

"We won't allow the community to take the law into their own hands. The woman must involve the police," he said.

Teddy Baye, owner of the Two Friends shop, said it was the first time he had heard this.

"The community buys from my shop, and no one has complained before. I am eating a gum from my shop now. I even gave the community chewing gums as well, and no one complained. How can I poison my customers?" he said.

He said the customer must bring evidence that she bought it from his shop.

"The problem is there's no proof she bought it from my shop. If there's proof, I'll apologise and even pay her," said Baye.
