The African Congress for Transformation disputes allegations surrounding the appointment of Search Mkhabela to the Free State Provincial legislature.

THE African Congress for Transformation (ACT) has disputed overwhelming allegations concerning the party's deployee in the Free State provincial legislature.

The election of ACT Member of Provincial legislature, Search Mkhabela, raised eyebrows after social media reported that he's the son-in-law of party leader, Ace Magashule, who permanently lives in Pretoria, Gauteng.

Party spokesman Mohau Khumalo disputed the allegations and condemned what he viewed as "political interference".

"Our deployee in the provincial legislature is not a son-in-law of president general, Ace Magashule. He was born and bred in Welkom and voted in Welkom during the recent national elections. The decision to deploy Mkhabela in the legislature was taken by the party's national executive. It's not true that our president appointed his son-in-law from Pretoria," he said.

Khumalo also said the party structures know that Mkhabela was sent to the legislature after Magashule declined.

Social media allegations claimed that some party members are unhappy with Mkhabela's appointment, allegedly made by the president without consulting structures.

The newly formed ACT secured one seat in the provincial legislature. However, Magashule has launched a dispute with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over alleged election rigging.

Magashule believes he had enough support to have won the elections with an outright majority. Efforts by Daily Sun to reach Mkhabela were unsuccessful.
