It's phinda mzala for provincial Speaker!

ANC's Nontembeko Boyse has been re-elected as the KZN legislature speaker.

She was elected by the coalition of the IFP, ANC, DA, and NFP against the former mayor of Msunduzi Municipality, Mervyn Dirks of the MK party.

Despite the MK and EFF complaining about the irregularities, Judge President of KZN High Court Thoba Poyo-Dlwati declared Boyse a win of 41 votes against 39 votes.

Boyse said political parties need to put their differences aside and work for the people of KZN.

"People are hungry for jobs, houses, and services. This house must make sure that services are delivered by the government.

"This house has to ensure that we also involve the people of this province in the making of decisions by this house through public participation," she said.

Boyse emphasised that as members of the provincial legislature, they do not know each other, and it is not important for them to have met.

However, they have been invited to meet each other by the Mzansi Constitution.

"We may not like each other, and it's not important that we like each other, but we have to work together for the good of the people of this province and also to fulfil the constitutional mandate.

"I'm inviting all of us to make a house, an orderly house, a house that will be respected, not because we are friends but because we differ when we have to differentiate good from the people of the province and to achieve our constitutional mandate but work and deliver," she said.
