Residents voiced their concerns.

THE Moretele Local Municipality in the North West said it is working around the clock to ensure that services are delivered to the people.

This came to light during the recent Draft Budget Lekgotla for 2024/2025 where Mayor George Manyike led the discussions for features of the communities of Moretele.

The discussions focused on service delivery issues relating to water, internal roads, sanitation and job opportunities.

These are some of the issues that were raised in recent imbizos hosted both by Moretele Municipality and the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.

Residents voiced their concerns, citing a lack of services such as water, sanitation and roads.

Many expressed their concerns about crime happening in their areas due to a lack of high mast lights.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Manyike said plans are in place to ensure that projects that were left incomplete are completed in this financial year.

Manyike said some of the challenges causing these projects not to be completed in time are hijacking of projects by small business owners demanding subcontracting tenders, and also community unrest that are caused by employment politics of different villages.

"As the municipality, we have realised that some adjustments needed to be made to cover key issues faced by our communities. Our residents are crying over water, roads and sanitation. We have to ensure that critical roads such as the one in Dikebu, Ward 10, which costs about R10 million and the one in Mathibestad Ward 24, which is about 1km, are covered.

"By so doing, we will be addressing the challenge affecting ambulances' ability to operate smoothly whenever they have to transport patients," said Manyike.

The mayor said that the issue of high mast lights also needs urgent attention as this will help to reduce the rate of crime in the communities.

"We are also looking at areas which were not previously covered in terms of service delivery. There are RDP houses that were not completed in areas such as Ramaphosa, Maubane, Danhouse, Dertig, Tladistastad, Swartdam, Dikebu, and Ratjiepane, just to mention a few. We would like to assure our people that this matter has been raised with Human Settlements MEC Nono Maloyi," said Manyike.

He acknowledged that water shortage is still a challenge faced by many.
