MMUSI Maimane becomes Dr Maimane as he earns his PhD.
Build One South Africa (Bosa) leader Maimane is now a doctor.
He'll be given a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in public management and governance by the University of Johannesburg's College of Business and Economics on Monday, 21 July.
Dr Maimane's thesis, titled "Mjita wa ko kasi's journey from Soweto to Jozi government leadership: An autoethnography", is a "powerful and deeply" personal look at leadership, public service and identity.
Bosa spokesman Roger Solomons said that through this work, the leader of the opposition party in Parliament adds not only to academic governance studies, but it's also timely in South Africa's democracy as the country struggles with what it means to lead with integrity and authenticity.
"Beyond this being a huge personal achievement, it's a testament to the power of education and the resilience of the South African spirit. From his humble roots in Dobsonville, Soweto, to the halls of academic excellence, Dr Maimane has continuously shown his unwavering belief that every child, regardless of where they are born, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead," he said.

Solomons emphasised that Dr Maimane often said, "education is the cornerstone of a just and prosperous society".
"Today, as he walks the graduation stage, he embodies that belief. His journey reminds us all that with courage, discipline, and access to opportunity, nothing is beyond reach," he said.
"We celebrate you, Dr Maimane. Your achievement is a victory not just for you and your family, but for all South Africans who dare to dream."
Malusi Gigaba is another MP who'll be given the PhD on the same day as Maimane.
Other politicians who have recently graduated with PhDs include deputy police minister Polly Boshielo and former KZN premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
