Joslin Smith case: 'My missing kid will make me famous'

COP reveals shocking details about missing Joslin's mum.

The revelations were made by Detective Wesley Lombard when he was testifying during the Joslin Smith trial on Thursday morning, 27 March.

The case was heard in the Western Cape High Court sitting at the White City Multipurpose Centre in Saldanha Bay.

Lombard didn't hold back when he told the court how he was left stunned by the seeming lack of interest from Joslin's mum, Kelly Smith in helping cops find her child.

Kelly, her boyfriend, Jacquen "Boeta" Rowhan Apollis and friend, Steveno Dumaizio Duwayne Van Rhyn are on trial for allegedly contravening the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act. They've pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Lombard testified about a bizarre encounter with Kelly, saying she appeared more concerned about going to Spur for a meal than her missing daughter.

"Boeta and I must leave," Kelly reportedly told the detective during an interview, adding that they needed to buy food.

"I couldn't understand that the mother of a child who is lost wasn't prepared to give up her time to the police to help find her child," Lombard told the court.

Asked where Joslin was, Kelly's response caught him off guard.

"I asked her a few questions about where Joslin is. She answered me that ‘my child is not here anymore'. And she must carry on with her life because she has two other kids," recounted Lombard.

But that wasn't the most shocking part! The detective recalled Kelly's flippant comment about her missing child making her "famous". He said she smiled when he pointed out that the comment was inappropriate.

Lombard further testified that Kelly seemed impatient during the interview, even saying she was tired of repeating the same story.

"I was clear to her that I was here to help find Joslin," said the detective.

But the drama didn't end there. Court had to be adjourned when Kelly suddenly fell ill. She rushed out of the courtroom with her hands over her mouth, claiming she was about to throw up.
