A 17-year-old boy was stabbed, and he returned to his school with a large knife stuck in the back of his neck.

A 14-YEAR-OLD pupil is expected to appear in court for attempted murder of his fellow schoolmate.

This after he allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old in his neck, and the knife was found stuck in the back of his neck.

It's believed the stabbing incident happened after an altercation at Trenance Park in the north of Durban on Friday, 22 August.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesman Prem Balram said they received a call for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at Trenance Park Secondary in Trenance Park.

"On arrival, the male pupil was located lying in a prone position in the office area. A large kitchen knife was protruding from the back of his neck. He was bleeding profusely from his injury," he said.

Balram said the grade 10 pupil informed Reaction Unit officers that he was returning to his residence in Amaoti, KZN, when he was accosted by three other pupils from the same school.

"An altercation ensued before one of the males produced the knife and attacked the victim. The trio fled following the incident. Details surrounding the altercation were not immediately known. The injured male was assisted by a passerby who returned with him to the school," he said.

He said Rusa paramedics stabilised the pupil.

KZN police spokesman Robert Netshiunda confirmed that police in Verulam have arrested a 14-year-old pupil in connection with the attempted murder of a 17-year-old fellow pupil on Friday, 22 August 2025.

"Police responded to reports of a stabbing incident at a secondary school in Trenance Park and upon arrival, the victim had already been rushed to a nearby medical facility. It is reported that the two boys had an altercation which led to the 14-year-old stabbing the victim at the back of his head with a knife," he said.

He said the suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday, 25 August.
