A DEPUTY principal was shot in broad daylight as he arrived at work, sending shockwaves through Gauteng's school community.
The horrific shooting incident happened at Dinoto Technical Secondary School in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, on Friday, 7 November.
The victim was attacked outside the school gate and was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds. He's fighting for his life in medical care.
The attack has sparked anger from teachers, describing it as "senseless violence".
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed shock.

"We are deeply shocked by this incident. Schools are meant to be safe spaces for both pupils and educators. The department condemns this senseless act of violence in the strongest possible terms," he said.
Despite the chaos, brave matric pupils carried on with their National Senior Certificate exams under heavy supervision.
The Gauteng Department of Education has sent psychosocial support teams to help the school community.
Chiloane sent his prayers to the wounded deputy principal.
"We wish the deputy principal a speedy recovery, and we urge authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice without delay."
Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman and opened an attempted murder case.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Majang Skalkie confirmed the shooting.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
