THE water outages that disrupted services at Helen Joseph Hospital in Joburg have finally been resolved.

THE water outages that disrupted services at Helen Joseph Hospital in Joburg have finally been resolved.

The emergency department, theatre, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and upper wards were among the affected parts of the hospital from over the weekend.

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) said the shortage was caused by the challenges experienced by Joburg Water since over the weekend.

GDoH's head of communications Motalatale Modiba said the department wishes to inform the public, patients and their families that the water woes at the hospital have been restored and health services are continuing as normal.

"As part of efforts to ensure that there was minimal impact on critical services, the hospital continued with urgent services, especially at its theatre," he said.

According to the department, the utility supplied water tanks to pump water into the system. They believe that this intervention has helped to ensure that the hospital services continue, albeit under constrained circumstances.

They further said they sourced mobile toilets to ensure that patients and staff have access to ablution services.

Modiba said that the hospital's borehole supplied water to some areas including the kitchen, so cooking services for patients has not been affected.
