TWO opposition parties in KZN are on a serious mission.

The IFP and DA have stepped up their efforts to oust the ruling party (ANC) in the province.

These parties have signed an agreement to provide stability in several municipalities in KZN where they both hold seats.

The agreement was signed at the Onomo Hotel in Durban, KZN on Tuesday, 11 July. It was signed by IFP provincial chairman Thami Ntuli and the party's secretary general Siphosethu Ngcobo, as well as DA provincial chairman Dean Macpherson and the party's provincial leader, Francois Rodgers.

The parties first announced their marriage in November 2022, when they agreed that they would not run against each other in the by-elections where they have strong holds.

Ntuli said the two parties met to sign a historic service pact.

"This agreement, which we have been working on for six months, is the result of our successful cooperation in the by-elections where we won wards from the ANC.

"It ensures that where each party has seats in a vacant municipality, we will work together to improve service delivery and make life easier for residents," he said.

"We are also governing parties that govern in different municipalities across the country and are only two of three parties that have governed a province.

"This agreement is only for service delivery and by-elections. It has nothing to do with next year's election," Ntuli said.

Rodgers said there was no doubt that the ANC had ruined local governments across KZN.

"It's up to the IFP and DA to restore faith and trust in the political process. That's why we believe we are able to come together and put the interest of citizens first.

"This shared agreement is a major turning point in the politics of our province, and it will bring much needed stability" he said.
