FOR over 60 years, the International Pentecost Holiness Church (IPHC) has upheld its tradition of hosting mass weddings three times in a year: in Easter, September and December.

The ceremonies often see tens of couples tying the knot simultaneously.

Being the only church in the world that allows men to take more than one wife, six couples entering into polygamous marriages were among the 41 couples who tied the knot on Sunday, 8 September at IPHC headquarters, Silo in Zuurbekom, Westonaria.

Among those entering into polygamous marriages was one of the church's priests, Abilos Moloto with his two beautiful wives, Mbali Moloto and Tebogo Mpai.

The atmosphere in the church was electric as Moloto and his wives walked in with an entourage led by Her Grace Masechaba Masego Modise and the unions were blessed by His Grace Comforter Frederick Leonard Modise.

"We're happy to be welcomed to the church and be part of the guests witnessing the mass weddings as they unfold," said Moloko.

The celebrations marked the church's new year which started on 1 September.

IPHC recognises the African calendar, which embraces 1 September as the beginning of the year.

Priest Abbie Wessie, spokesman for Silo IPHC said: "His Grace, Comforter Modise expresses great satisfaction with the number of congregants entering into both first and polygamous marriages as a sign of honouring God.

"As we celebrate the dawn of a new year, the IPHC welcomes this new chapter with 41 couples being solemnised in marriage. Thirty-five were first time marriages, while six polygamous marriages."
