OWAMI Mkhulisi may be young, but he's already learning about Mzansi's history.
The four-year-old boy from Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, was among the people who attended the Freedom Day celebrations at Huntersfield Stadium on Thursday, 27 April.
Gugu Ngubeni (31) from Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni said she brought her cousin Owami for him to learn about the importance of Freedom Day.
She said most adults like her know why we are celebrating Freedom Day.
"I believe young children should know where we come from with our struggle. Many people died for this freedom, and our young ones should know this history and be able to learn from it," Gugu said.
"Our children should know how we received the freedom and what it means to everyone," she added.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said freedom is essential to be celebrated.
"We might have limitations and challenges, but this day cannot be erased from the calendar of this country. It's a day we received the humanity and dignity back," Lesufi said.
"I was excited to see the elderly and youth being part of this celebration. We must observe the day not for us only but for the future as well," he added.
He further said 27 April is the day our nation was founded.
"It is a day which redefines the political calendar of our nation because it represents a shift in the political history of our country. It marks a transition from an era of racialised colonial and apartheid oppression, which robbed the majority of our country of their inherent humanity, to an era of hope," Lesufi said.
