LIMPOPO Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General, Thembi Hadebe, has a warning for mothers.

Hadebe's warning is aimed at women who continue to leave kids alone and go boozing.

This follows an incident involving a six-month-old baby who died after the groovist mum allegedly left the little one in the care of 12-year-old sibling.

According to police, officers responded to a complaint at Atok Village in Apel on Saturday, 12 October, and found the baby's body.

Hadebe said: "A 23-year-old woman has been arrested for child neglect. This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the responsibilities of parenthood and the devastating consequences that arise from it.

"We're not pleased with these reports. Parents who continue to neglect their kids will have to face the full might of the law. We strongly condemn this incident. Child abuse can't be tolerated."

Daily Sun reached out to the police for more details on the incident.

Police spokesman, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said: "We've noted your inquiry, and it'll be sent to out information centre. We'll then revert."

Meanwhile, Josias Mashego (55), owner of Mdala Liquor Store, said incidents like these give their businesses a bad image.

"As we speak, we have community members demanding closure of our businesses. It's incidents like these that fuel anger from community members. Yes, they raise valid points. Tavern owners sometimes break laws and sell alcohol to underage kids or close their operations late, but this one is out of control," Josias said.

"We can't tell if our customers left their kids alone to come here. We believe as they're adults, they'll be responsible. We don't condone such behaviour and believe others who have left kids alone have learned a lesson," he said.
