THE Mahikeng Local Municipality in the North West has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of Ward 2 councillor and MPAC chairperson Tshepiso Motshabi.
Municipality spokesperson Johnny Nkoane confirmed to Daily Sun that Motshabi (47) passed away on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
He described Motshabi's untimely passing as a devastating loss to the local community.
He also revealed that Motshabi was ill and surrounded by his beloved family when he died. His cause of death has not been revealed.
Motshabi served the residents of Ward 2 in Mahikeng and also chaired the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), where he played a key role in overseeing accountability within the municipality.

Nkoane said the municipality had received the news with deep sorrow and extended condolences to Motshabi's loved ones and the broader community.
"The municipality passes its condolences to his family, relatives, friends, the African National Congress (ANC), his party and the entire community of Mahikeng, particularly Ward 2," he said.
Nkoane said details regarding Motshabi's memorial and burial services will be communicated once arrangements have been finalised.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace," he added.
Motshabi's death has left residents and colleagues shocked as they remember him for his service and leadership within the municipality.
