MY son almost died for eating amapentshisi (peaches) from makhi.
These were the words of an angry mum (42) who wants answers from the family of a 16-year-old girl who allegedly poured hot water on her son (10).
'Boy burnt while picking peaches'
The angry mum from Extension 11 in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, claimed the incident happened on Sunday, 30 November 2025. She said that she received a phone call from a neighbour while at her gogo's place in Mamelodi East.
"The neighbour told me to come home as my son was burnt. A 16-year-old girl allegedly poured hot water on my son. My son was burnt in the neighbour's home. My son was picking peaches with the girl's young brother from their tree," she claimed.
The distraught woman claimed that her son always visited the neighbour's home.
"After picking the peaches, they ate them. The girl came holding a bucket of hot water and splashed him on the back while my son was running away, trying to jump a wall," she claimed.

We were good neighbours
She said that all along, they didn't have any problem with her makhi, as they were good neighbours.
"My neighbour never came to talk to me. They just sent a woman to bring me R200 after the incident to take my son to hospital," she claimed.
She said her son allegedly jumped over the wall into her home, and feeling pain, he ran to the streets where he was helped by residents.
Admitted to Kalafong Hospital
She said her son was taken to a local clinic and was later admitted to Kalafong Hospital. The angry mum claimed that she spent almost R600 on a private doctor.
"I don't wish even my worst enemy to go through what my son went through. My son was crying endlessly. That girl almost killed my son," she said.
Mum demands justice
The woman said that although her son is recovering, she wants justice for him and the perpetrator to be jailed.
The teen girl was arrested and released to her parents' custody.
Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said: "Police can confirm that a 16-year-old girl was arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The suspect was released into the custody of the parents since she is a minor. She is expected back in court on Monday, 5 January 2026 as the investigation is continuing."
