"WE will be all over like the Holy Spirit."

Mpumalanga's acting police chief, General Zeph Mkhwanazi, cautioned motorists at the Easter road safety campaign on Wednesday, 16 April, held at Alkmaar on the N4 outside Mbombela.

Mkhwanazi assured that all systems are ready to protect motorists, residents, and tourists visiting the province.

He emphasised that law enforcement agencies will collaborate to conduct roadblocks and operations to ensure public safety.

"Easter holidays are very important because everyone is going home to their families or relatives, and we want to make sure that this is a safe moment for them in Mpumalanga. We will make sure that we are on all the roads. Traffic officials will take care of the roads, and we will support them as the police.

"We will be taking care of where our people are residing by making sure that we protect them. This includes the border itself, leading to Lebombo. We will be all over. We will definitely be like the Holy Spirit. You will find us everywhere. We want to make sure that people are safe and protected," he said.

Community safety MEC Jackie added that police and traffic officers will be deployed in all strategic areas.

"They are here as visitors to invest in the growth of the province. It is important that we must look after them as they are here to enjoy," he said.

Motorists travelling from other provinces to Mpumalanga told Daily Sun that the roadblocks and operations are good for them.

Thulani Shabangu, going to visit his family in Bushbuckridge, said although they are being kept in the traffic for a long time, they believe it's for their safety.

"We sometimes get angry with the police for stopping us, but it's for the best. They went to see everyone safe."

Another motorist, Thokozani Zikalala, said he had encountered a few roadblocks while on the road.

Thokozani said this is helping because it makes everyone's journey smooth and safe.

Meanwhile, Walter Khunwani, who is travelling from Gauteng, added that traffic is flowing and police are all over to ensure that everyone is safe. "There are stops and searches, and everything is fine," he said.
