HELP! My walls can crush me anytime

WHEN Jimmy Sambo's house burnt down in December 2023, he became destitute.

The 42-year-old from Maganagobuswa in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga, had no choice but to shelter himself within the cracked walls of the burnt house.

Jimmy said he was away when the house caught fire.

"My parents left me with the house when they died. I'm sick and can't work. I don't know what to do and don't have money to rebuild my house. I've endured a summer of heavy rain and now winter has come. The walls are not safe and can crush on me anytime," he said.

He added:

I survive by collecting tins. My life would be much better if I can get a proper house.

Jimmy's niece, Elsie Chauke said her uncle is really struggling and they are trying their best to help him.

"His life has become worse since his house was burnt. We also try to give him food so he can take his medication. He's also trying to hustle by collecting tins. We beg that he gets an RDP house," she said.

Elsie told Daily Sun her uncle's life is in danger because the house is no longer fit for human occupation. She said it's full of cracks on the walls.

Dr JS Moroka Municipality spokeswoman, Masabatha Ramatsetse said the community housing allocation process, the CDW, works with the ward councillor to identify housing needs, prioritising households owned by the elderly, child-headed households and people living with disabilities.

"The municipality facilitates the process of registering for RDP houses between communities and the provincial Department of Human Settlements. If we can get the affected person's details, we'll be able to check with the role players," she said.
