POLICE arrested two teenage boys after they were found with firearms during anti-gang operations in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town this week.
The arrests come as law enforcement continues to clamp down on illegal guns fuelling gang violence in the area.
According to police spokesman Constable Ndakhe Gwala, Anti-Gang Unit members were deployed in Beacon Valley on Wednesday, 29 October, following reports of ongoing shootings.
Acting on a tip-off, officers searched a house in Cricket Street, where they found a .38 Special revolver and one round of ammunition hidden inside.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
"A 17-year-old male suspect was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition," said Gwala.
The teenager is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court soon.

The same team later followed up another lead in Atletiek Street, where they discovered a 16-year-old boy in possession of another .38 Special revolver, this one without a serial number. He was also arrested and will appear in court.
Meanwhile, in Kensington, another group of Anti-Gang Unit members followed up on intelligence after a shooting incident in the area earlier the same day. They searched a property in Ventura Street and found a 9mm pistol, a magazine, and 13 rounds of ammunition hidden in a backyard Wendy house ceiling.
Gwala said police are determined to remove illegal firearms from communities, describing the arrests as part of their ongoing effort to "rid the area of illegal firearms."
