HUNDREDS of families were left stranded after their houses were demolished by Rustenburg Local Municipality on Wednesday morning, 22 November.
The residents of the Tshenolong informal settlement in Ramochane outside Rustenburg were rebuilding their houses and vowed that they were not going anywhere.
A resident, Mamotao Lenphane (43), who was picking up pieces of her left belongings.
"Where does the municipality expect these us to go," she said.
She said everything was damaged as the municipality evicted them without giving them notice.
"This is unfair," she said.
Another resident, Happy Twala, who stays with her wife and two children, said they lost everything.
"All our furniture was destroyed. I was at work when my wife called and requested that I come back home. She was not even given a chance to move out our belongings.
"This shows us how cruel our government can treat its people," he said.

Happy said they have been living there for over four years.
Community leader Ben Khoza said they visited the municipality to demand answers.
"We didn't receive any information regarding our situation."
He said the municipality had not given them solid answers.
Rustenburg municipal spokeswoman Boitumelo Mareume had previously said the municipality would issue a statement.
Daily Sun contacted her, and calls, emails and texts have since been ignored.
