STUDENTS across Mzansi warned against a financial aid scam.
Fraudsters are manipulating the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) application process by demanding fake fees for processing.
It's free to apply
Nsfas has reiterated that applications are entirely free of charge. No payments are required at any stage, and students are urged to remain vigilant against any dishonest claims.
Nsfas spokesman Ishmael Mnisi said: "Nsfas will never ask for payment to handle or fast-track applications."
Spot the fakes!
A rise in fake emails and messages has been detected, deceiving students into believing a fee is required to secure or expedite the funding process.
These scams often mimic official communication with authentic-looking logos and language.
What students should do
Students are advised to be cautious and verify any communication regarding Nsfas application.

As more students apply for funding to pursue their academic goals, it's crucial to stay informed and wary of scams which could jeopardise their financial aid.
"Nsfas remains committed to supporting students and is working diligently to raise awareness about these fraudulent practices. Students can rest assured that applying for funding is both easy and free of charge," said Mnisi.
"If you encounter any unethical behaviour, bribery, fraud or corruption, report it immediately with details of the implicated individuals to speakup@nsfas.org.zaarrow outward."
