THEY submitted CVs for waste collection jobs at the KwaThema Customer Care Centre (CCC) last week.
They hoped the recruitment process would be fair and that applicants would be called for interviews.
However, angry applicants now hear others boasting that they've already been employed and are set to start work on 1 November.
The new contractor was awarded a tender by the Ekurhuleni Municipality to service KwaThema and Duduza.
The angry applicants suspect something fishy is going on within the corridors of the KwaThema CCC offices and want the process to be fair and transparent.
"We all want jobs. Let there be no friends hired," said one of the applicants.
On Thursday morning, 3 October, the angry applicants trashed rubbish in front of the gate of the CCC in KwaThema, demanding the centre manager explain how he allowed corruption to happen under his nose.
Applicants claim there was a box to submit CVs and a register at the entrance of the CCC.

They also alleged that there was another secret box, with a register, inside the office of the centre manager.
They believe applicants from this secret box are now boasting that they've been hired.
"It shows we have been fooled, and the jobs were preserved for certain individuals.
"We want those in higher positions to intervene and for the process to start afresh. We also want jobs. We have families to support, and there should be a rotation of these jobs. Why should the same people keep getting these jobs?" said unhappy applicant Eunica Mogame.
Daily Sun spoke to CCC manager Andries Nkabinde, who denied the existence of a secret box.

"The municipality has no say in the recruitment process. We only host boxes to make things easier for applicants and to spare them travelling long distances to deliver CVs in Boksburg.
"These boxes are delivered by the councillors from various wards, and cameras are watching the process. We understand the rate of unemployment, but we aren't going to allow lawlessness," said Nkabinde.
