As they were being chased, the thugs lost control of their car in the Temong section, and two of them fled on foot. The other two were trapped in the car.

Residents assault thugs

The residents started assaulting them with any object they could lay their hands on.

Residents told Daily Sun that crime is out of control.

"We live in fear. We can't walk freely in the streets. It's scary, but we hope other tsotsis who see this will repent," said a resident.

Another resident said: "People are tired and we don't blame them."

In a video seen by Daily Sun, stones, a gas cylinder and poles are seen scattered on the ground, and the occupants of the lime green Toyota Corolla are pelted with stones and later their car is set on fire.

The residents said the thugs had been terrorising them for a long time.

A resident said: "We had no choice because these thugs undermine everyone including the police. Why did they shoot at the police? We are tired, and we are not going to be ruled by thugs!"

Police investigate

EMPD's Marie Mashishi said two bodies were retrieved from the burnt car and police are still looking for two escaped suspects, adding that a case of arson has been opened.

Mashishi said they have been looking for the alleged Toyota Corolla, which has caused havoc as far as Kempton Park.
