Council member's murder: Family demands answers!

"HIS death is inconceivable."

These were the words of the grieving family of Kosabo Thugwana, a member of the Ndzundza Mabhoko council, who was killed on Sunday, 5 January.

Thugwana's vehicle was riddled with bullets by unknown assailants, killing him instantly.

Family spokesman Phillip Mahlangu said they're still shocked by how Thugwana's life was taken.

He described the victim as a multi-talented person who had served in different structures at Contralesa, both provincially and nationally.

Phillip said Thugwana was instrumental in the Ndzundza Mabhoko Traditional Council as well as other traditional councils. He resolved matters in a civilised manner and brought together people who had differences on certain issues.

"He was a special gift and hope for the people of South Africa. As the family, we're saddened and shocked. We can't accept it. It's unbelievable, and for me personally, as someone who raised this, it's inconceivable that Thugwana could go down in the manner he did," Phillip said.

Thugwana was allegedly shot seven times.

Phillip said, according to family members who went to the scene, there were more than 20 cartridges on the ground.

He claimed Thugwana was allegedly shot through his car's windscreen.

Phillip also raised his frustrations about the slow pace of the police investigation. He accused police of not interacting with the family regarding progress in the case.

"We're a little bit worried about the investigation, progress, and processes. Police were supposed to interact with the family, and from Sunday until now they haven't.

"We're not getting any updates. We want to call upon government, including minister Mchunu, that this case may turn things around if they don't attend to it immediately," he said.

Police spokesman Brigadier Donald Mdluli said a team has been established to deal with the matter, and investigations are already underway.
