Hollard Daredevil Run donates R1 million to Cansa and Prostate Cancer Foundation.

IT was a big day for men in purple speedos!

The Hollard Daredevil Run handed over a whopping R1 million cheque to the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) during the official 2025 Media Launch in Parktown, Joburg on Tuesday, 12 August.

The Daredevil Run, famous for getting thousands of men and boys to run through the streets wearing only their iconic purple speedos, raises awareness about prostate and testicular cancer.

The 2024 edition broke records again - and the next one is set for 31 October 2025.

Prostate Cancer Foundation CEO Andrew Oberholzer said the run is more than just a laugh - it's saving lives.

"The Daredevil event is a great way to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer. It helps destigmatise the issue and encourages men to go for screening, which is essential for early detection," he said.

Oberholzer said it's often hard to get men to open up about health issues, especially ones that can affect sexual function.

"This event creates a fantastic platform to talk about it. Funds raised help make screening more accessible for men in underprivileged communities. In 2025, we hope to raise even more - maybe even double what we raised in 2024," he said.

Prostate cancer survivor David Lucas knows first-hand how important the run is.

"I was diagnosed in 2011 and, thank God, I'm still here. When I started with the Daredevil Run, it was a small group of people. Now, more men - especially young black men - are taking part. Prostate cancer is more prevalent among black men, but there's still stigma. Many think it can't happen to them, but it can affect anyone," he said.

With the R1 million boost and next year's date confirmed, the Daredevils are gearing up to paint the streets purple once again - and save lives while doing it.
