THREE people, including a child, died after a double-storey building collapsed in Doornkop, Joburg in the early hours of Sunday morning, 28 December.

Joburg Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rushed to the scene at about 3am after receiving reports of a building collapse.

EMS spokeswoman, Xolile Khumalo said rescuers found several people trapped under rubble when they arrived.

"Upon arrival, it was confirmed that six people were inside the building at the time of collapse and three were trapped beneath the rubble," said Khumalo.

She said rescue teams worked urgently to free the trapped victims, one of the patients was critically injured.

"One patient sustained critical injuries and required immediate life-saving medical intervention following extrication, while another victim was seriously hurt and needed urgent medical attention," she said.

Sadly, not everyone survived.
