TRADE and Industry Minister Parks Tau has tested positive for Covid-19 and has temporarily stepped back from public duties while he recovers.
His spokesman, Kaamil Alli, said Tau was tested after experiencing mild symptoms linked to the virus. The results confirmed he'd contracted Covid-19 and he's since entered self-isolation in line with public health guidelines.
"Minister Tau is in good spirits and is currently in self-isolation," the department said.
The department said the minister remains in good spirits while receiving appropriate medical care.
Tau also urged people who recently came into contact with him to get tested and remain cautious.
"Minister Tau would like to encourage those who have been in contact with him recently to get tested and exercise precautionary measures," the department added.

All of the minister's scheduled public appearances, meetings and engagements have been postponed until he's fully recovered. He won't be able to attend the South Africa-Kenya Business Forum in Midrand, Gauteng on Thursday, 4 June.
The announcement comes as Mzansi navigates the winter season, when respiratory illnesses typically become more common.
While Covid-19 infections are generally less severe than during the height of the pandemic, health experts continue to urge the public, especially vulnerable people and those with underlying health conditions, to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
