TRADITIONAL healers and spiritual leaders share their insights on the recent blood moon phenomenon.
The blood moon, which occurred on Sunday, 7 September and Monday, 8 September, is a natural phenomenon where the earth passes directly between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow onto the moon.
During a total lunar eclipse, the moon can appear reddish as sunlight filters through earth's atmosphere, scattering blue light and allowing red wavelengths to reach the moon.
For Our Faith Traditional Healers Practitioners Organisation of South Africa (OFTHOSA), the blood moon is not just an astronomical event, but a spiritual sign that calls for reflection, cleansing and renewal.

According to OFTHOSA spokesman Mkhulu Finti John, the blood moon is a powerful time of transition, cleansing and revelation.
"It's a moment for individuals, families and communities to reflect on their lives, cleanse spiritually and seek renewal. Prophets and spiritual leaders will use this period to provide guidance, interpret dreams and share messages revealed during this significant time.
"The blood moon is also believed to strengthen the bond between the living and the ancestors, opening channels of guidance and protection," said Mkhulu Finti.
Izangoma encourage all South Africans to approach this time with respect and reverence, uniting in prayer, rituals and traditional practices that honour both our cultural heritage and divine presence.
Mkhulu Finti said: "As OFTHOSA, we stand committed to preserving African spirituality and ensuring events of this nature are understood in their fullness scientifically, culturally and spiritually."
