MOTORISTS are in for a long day after a train became stuck across the busy R36 road, forcing a complete road closure between Morebeng and Mooketsi in Limpopo.
The train got stuck on Friday night, 27 February, and the situation remains the same this morning.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed the dramatic obstruction late on Friday night.
"A train has become stuck on the R36 between Morebeng and Mooketsi, forcing a full road closure that could last through the night," the department said in a traffic alert issued at 21:55.
Reports indicate the train's axle may have burst, leaving it stranded across the road and bringing traffic to a grinding halt.
Law enforcement officers and members of the SANDF are on the scene, working under floodlights to manage the situation and direct frustrated motorists away from the blocked stretch.
