TWO hijackers are in hospital after a shootout with police.
The incident happened on Sunday, 23 November 2025, around 2:15am in Atteridgeville, Tshwane.
The suspects aged 27 and 28 received medical attention on the scene before being transported to hospital under police guard.
Tshwane District Police spokesman Captain Johan van Dyk said members of SAPS Atteridgeville were conducting crime-prevention patrols when they received information about a white Mazda Rustler that had been hijacked in Pretoria West and was reportedly heading towards Atteridgeville.
"The members strategically positioned themselves along an access route leading into Atteridgeville. Shortly after, the hijacked vehicle was spotted, and the police attempted to stop it."
He said the suspects ignored the instructions, sped off, and a high-speed chase ensued.

However, the suspects abandoned the vehicle at Tlou Street near Nkomo Village in Atteridgeville and attempted to flee on foot while firing shots at the police.
"The officers returned fire, during which both suspects were injured and subsequently arrested," he said.
He further said that crime scene experts processed the scene, where a gun was recovered from one of the suspects.
"The suspects have been charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of an unlicensed gun and ammunition, as well as attempted murder," he said.
Investigations are ongoing to determine whether they and the recovered gun may be linked to other criminal activities.
Tshwane District Police Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine commended the police for their swift response.
