With the maintenance planned to end on the 15th, residents were shocked to see days pass by with no water.

RESIDENTS of Protea Glen in Soweto can finally breathe a sigh from relief.

This after their taps ran dry, leaving them stranded with no water for days while other areas had water on some days but with lower pressure.

Residents couldn't access water after Joburg Water announced there would be unplanned maintenance. The maintenance was set to start from 13 February and end on 15 February.

To the surprise of the residents, that was not the case. Residents experienced low pressure from the 12th in the afternoon. By 6pm, some houses had no water already.

A resident said she's had no access to water for the past seven days.

"Water was supposed to come back on the 15th but that was not the case. Sometimes water would come back in the middle of the night. Are we then supposed to wake up at night and fill up our buckets?," she said.

Residents said that they couldn't even bath.

Rirhandzu Khosa said: "This water crisis is causing serious hygiene problems. There was no water in Protea Glen since 13 February. We were promised that water would be restored on the 15th. Water was restored that night while we were asleep. At 5am we had no water again."

Another resident, Edward Kholo said they thought the whole issue was sabotage because not everyone could get to where water tankers were dispatched.

Residents were forced to spend seven days without water at all or less pressure.

Joburg Water said this was due to the system being under pressure while some areas were urged to expect poor pressure to no water at all. They had however dispatched water tankers in affected areas.
