THE first few days of November 2023 were eventful.

In Tshwane, afire destroyed a couple's home in Block GG in Soshanguve when their five-roomed house was almost burnt down on Thursday, 2 November. The married couple are now homeless as they are both not working.

Moving to Joburg, gatvol residents of Ward 17 and Ward 18 in Eldorado Park, Joburg marched from Corner Golden Highway and Main Road to Eldorado Park Police Station on Saturday, 4 November in solidarity with allegations of ill treatment, verbal abuse, intimidation and physical abuse by councillors of the Patriotic Alliance.

In Soweto, the police and other law enforcement officials conducted a roadblock in Protea Glen on Saturday evening, 4 November. During the roadblock, the police arrested 25 undocumented people, 12 people who were found driving under the influence of alcohol and five shebeens were closed, while two people were arrested for possession of a huge amount of dagga.

On the other hand, thousands of congregants from various churches gathered at International Pentecost Holiness Church (IPHC) Kanana City in Heidelberg on Sunday, 5 November for a prayer service for peace. The service was hosted by IPHC under the leadership of His Grace, Successor MG Sandlana, together with allied faith-based organisations, non-governmental organisations, traditional leaders and political party representatives.

Going back to Tshwane, some men in Lusaka in Mamelodi East were happy and proud to dress and apply make-up in celebration of Guy Fawkes Day on Sunday. They waved to motorists, showing their joy dressed up like women.

Also on Sunday, tweeps took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to post that actor, Lindani Nkosi had died. Some users reacted to the posts in disbelief, but Mzansi Magic has since disputed the rumours.

In happier news, a Soweto man has won the African Bank Soweto Marathon for the first time in 12 years. Road runner, Ntsindiso Mphakathi (33) from Mofolo Central, Soweto became the first man from Soweto to win the Soweto Marathon on Sunday.
