STUDENTS march peacefully.
Witwatersrand Universitystudents took to the streets demanding action against gender-based harm after shocking rape allegations rocked the campus.
The students had a peaceful march at the Braamfontein campus On Monday night, 10 November after word spread that a Student Representative Council (SRC) member allegedly raped a fellow student.
However, the SRC said in a statement: "There is no report of a case of that kind for the date of 7 November 2025 which has been reported. The SRC also enquired if there was any case that was reported of this nature after 7 November till to date. The GEO and the investigation sections of the institution informed us that there is no report or any pragmatic sign of this even in their CCTVs."

But the SRC is not letting the matter slide and the suspected SRC member has been kicked out for now and faces a university probe.
"The accused, albeit no report or case of him has been reported to these germane offices of the institution, has been placed under immediate suspension pending the investigation.
"Consequently, the SRC will not accord minimal attention to a national global conundrum of this nature therefore this decision to place the said officer under immediate suspension," said the SRC in the statement.
Wits spokeswoman, Shirona Patel called on everyone to speak out.
"The gender equity office will manage this is in line with the university's rules and policies. The university urges all students and others to report any form of gender-based harm to the office in person or online. Students marched to Braamfontein last night and dispersed peacefully thereafter," said Patel.
